U5 and U6 Fun of Soccer

U5 and U6 Fun of Soccer – Indoor Soccer Fun (Players born 2011 and 2012)

Did your child enjoy the Fun of Soccer program this Fall? We are excited to share with all of you that the WSA will run an indoor program specifically set up for our youngest members. Anyone who was part of the FOS program last Fall can take part in an 8-week indoor soccer program this winter. All weekly sessions are 50 minutes long and will provide the players with an opportunity to work on their basic ball skills and to continue the fun. These classes will take place at the Jefferson Elementary School.

Our own FOS program director, John Gardner, will work out a curriculum focused on the basic needs of our players. A heavy focus will be placed on the development of the basic motor skills, while incorporating the ball. A mixture of fun games and exercises will be included to help our youngest members develop a love for the game. The goal of these sessions is to engage the players, help them become more competent and confident on the ball and most importantly of all, have FUN!

Anyone interested in taking part in these classes can do so by going through the registration part of our WSA website. Please understand that since these classes will take place inside, that we can only accept a set number of registrations per hour to ensure a good experience for all players.

Also note that cleats can’t be worn, so participants need to be wearing sneakers/flats. It is also recommended to bring a ball and water.

U7 Winter Academy

U7 Winter Academy (Players born in 2010)

The U7 winter academy is new this year and set up for those players born in 2010 looking to further develop their soccer skills. Anyone interested in taking this class will be exposed to training with a heavy focus on the ability to control and manipulate the ball. To play soccer successfully one needs to be able to manipulate the ball, using different surfaces of both feet. In fun and challenging exercises, we look to provide the players with a lot of touches to help them further develop the ability the master the ball. A player who is able to control the ball will not only become more competent, but also more confident in his or her ability.

U8 Winter Academy

U8 Winter Academy  (Players born in 2009)

A winter program specifically designed for the serious soccer player born in 2009 looking to further develop their soccer skills. Anyone interested in this program can sign up for 1 or both 6 week sessions, which both take place at the Westfield Armory this upcoming winter.

The curriculum of this winter program will build upon what the players have been exposed to in training in the U8 academy or U8 rec during the Fall 2016. During the U8 academy and U8 rec the focus has been solely on developing the basic dribbling technique. Dribbling is the foundation on which all other soccer techniques are build. A player who is capable of controlling the ball will not only be more confident, but can also be taught how and when to pass and/or shoot. For that reason, it is important that players learn to manipulate the ball using both feet and different surfaces, eventually under pressure of opponents. Understanding that this takes time and lot of repetition, those players interested in becoming more comfortable and competent on the ball will most certainly benefit from taking part in this class.

Below all the information about these classes.

Given that these classes take place inside we only have a limited number of spots available. The trainers running these classes might divide players up based on their ability, to ensure all receive training that suits them.

Rec and IC Players U9-U15 (players born in 2002 to 2008)

U10-U15 Intercounty/U9 Rec Players (Players born 2002-2008)

The Westfield SA is once again excited to announce the offering of a winter indoor program available for all our U9-U15 IC/Rec players. These winter programs provide all players in rec and intercounty with an opportunity to train locally under the guidance of professional trainers assigned by the Westfield SA. All the training will take place in gyms right in town. The focus will be on the individual skill development and confidence on the ball of the players taking part in these clinics. It will be an 8-week program starting on January 8th 2017. All weekly sessions are 1 hour long.

Futsal Training – Players born in 2002 - 2008

All available sessions are focused on the individual skill development of the participants using the game of futsal. Futsal is a five-a-side version of soccer that finds its origins in South America. It was originally designed for youth competition in YMCAs. The game is played on basketball-sized courts, both indoors and out without the use of sidewalls. The term FUTSAL is the international term used for the game. It is derived from the Spanish or Portuguese word for “soccer”, FUTbol or FUTebol, and the French or Spanish word for “indoor”, SALon or SALa.

For young, developing players this is a great way to continue to develop their game and get touches on the ball. Remember, the main goal for the young soccer player is to improve individual technique while having fun. Futsal is one of the best “teachers” of the game to provide a fun, learning environment.

All training will take place in a local gym. Due to this we can only accept a small number of participants per hour. All participants are expected to wear indoor shoes / sneakers; bring water and to wear their shinguards.
