U8 Academy – Spring Pre Travel Program
The U8 academy spring program is specifically designed for those players interested in participating in the U9 travel program starting the Fall of 2015. To be considered for a travel team at U9, players have to go through our U8 Spring program. We will NOT hold separate try outs to form our U9 travel teams. Players will be assessed on a weekly basis, over the course of the Spring and teams will be formed based on the development of all players during the Spring.
Once signed up it is important that players make an effort to attend the practice sessions led by our professional training staff. This to ensure we are able to assess and track a player’s development during the course of this program. Attendance, attitude, effort and the technical development of a player are all considered when evaluating the players.
During the Spring the focus will be on the technical development of these young players. Dribbling, passing, receiving and shooting are all skills worked on, in game like situations. An emphasis will be placed on the development of these basic skills needed to be successful as a soccer player. Players will be trained in 1v1 – 5v5 game situations under the guidance of our professional training staff.
At the end of the program players will be placed on a team where we believe they fit best to aid their development as a soccer player. Being placed on the right team, in the right environment and competing at the right level are all very important to help players grow.
We (parents and coaches) always have to remember that player development is a marathon, rather than a sprint, and it will take time before players are both comfortable and confident on the ball. Mistakes are simply stepping stones to further development. We aim to ignite a passion for the game, make the experience enjoyable and create a desire to play the game of soccer.
To be eligible for the U8 Spring Academy, players must be born between August 1, 2006 and September 30, 2007 (8 years old or turning 8 by September 30, 2015, but will not be turning 9 before August 1, 2015).
