Houlihan/Sid Faye Safety
An important safety message from the WSA Board of Directors

Westfield Soccer Families:

In conjunction with the Recreation Commission, Westfield Soccer is embarking on a campaign to improve the parking situation at the Houlihan/Sid Faye complex. The first step in the process was to lengthen the time slots allotted for Sunday matches to minimize the number of cars entering and exiting the parking lot simultaneously. The next step was to ask our coaches and referees to redouble their efforts to have matches run on time so as to avoid the same problem of excess traffic in the parking lot. The next steps involve all of you, we need your assistance, it is after all your children we are trying to protect.
Goal Safety Policy
This past spring a ten year old boy in Virginia was killed by a falling goal during a soccer practice (Read Article). All coaches, referees, parents and players are asked to pay close attention to the safety of the goals on the fields that they are using. As such the WSA would like to remind everyone of our Goal Safety Policy:
  • Coaches must inspect goals prior to any activity to make sure they are secured. Special attention is needed at practices.
  • Coaches must warn players and all parents of the dangers of goal posts.
  • Parents must be attentive and responsible for their children.
  • Do not allow horsing around on or around goals.
  • Referees must inspect goals prior to a game.
  • On fields that have small-sided games, the large goals must be placed face down and off the field.
Let’s make sure a tragedy like this does not occur in Westfield. Goal safety is everyone’s responsibility!
Carry-on, Carry-off!
Help us keep our fields Safe and Clean
We share the soccer fields with  Westfield residents, students and all the other In-town Sports Associations.  Whatever items you carry-on to the fields you must carry-off the fields. Players, parents and coaches, you must pick up and carry off all your trash before leaving the field and place it in the garbage containers or recycle it.

The Westfield soccer fields are for all residents to enjoy.
