The 2011 Fun of Soccer program for Pre-K and Kindergarten children will begin Saturday, September 10. The sessions are every Saturday for 6 weeks (excluding Yom Kippur/Columbus Day weekend).
The WSA offers a program for Westfield boys and girls ages 4 – 6 called The Fun of Soccer Program. To be eligible to participate in the program, children must be entering kindergarten in the Fall or younger. Players entering first grade in the fall participate in the In-town program. The program is offered and operated under the guidance of the WSA Professional Coaching Team. Returning as the FOS Coaching Director is WSA veteran, John Gardner. John will set the weekly Coaching Curriculum.
Curriculum Emphasis:
- To introduce players to the FUN of soccer
- To offer some basic skill development
- To maintain age appropriate game
- To create “interactive” activities involving player & parent.
At our entry level, the FUN of soccer is introduced within Activity Groups. Each group is lead by parent volunteers who are called Activity Coaches. Players are grouped by the following ages:
Pre - K (4 yr. olds)
Kindergartners (5 & 6 yr. olds)
The age cut-off date is on or before Oct 31. The age you are before or during the fall season is the age group in which you participate.
PRACTICE TIMES:
The program will begin Saturday, September 10. All training occurs on Saturday afternoon at Jefferson School Field. The sessions run about 50 minutes for each group and start times are as follows:
The session dates are as follows: Sep 10, Sep 17, Sep 24, Oct 1, Oct 15 and Oct 22. If necessary, Oct 29 will be a makeup date.
Session times are 2:15 pm (pre-K) and 3:30 pm (kindergarten). You will be assigned a practice after groups are formed on or around Sep 1. At the first session, all players will be given a ball and jerseys. Children should also bring water and wear shinguards. Cleats are recommended, but sneakers are also acceptable. Please dress your child appropriately in athletic clothes.
COACHING:
We will again ask for the assistance of volunteer coaches to take the responsibility of leading training groups of 10 to 12 players each week. Each group will need a head “Activity Coach” and 2 or 3 assistants. All Activity Coaches will learn basic soccer related activities and games which are age-appropriate to this level. If you have any future desire to coach at any other level in the WSA, this is the first in a progressive training program for our coaches. This is also the perfect opportunity to simply enjoy a fun environment with your child through the game of soccer.

ADMINISTRATION:
Each age group will have a FOS Administrator who will handle any other questions you may have. We are also in need of volunteers for the first two sessions to assist with player check in & handing out jerseys & balls.
The success of the FOS relies on the collective effort of all volunteers and families involved. Thank you for all of your support of our program and our players.
