Today we had the first drops of rain on our trip but even that could not slow the Blaze as we beat SDFF (Sundsvall, Sweden) 4-0 to win our group and advance to the playoffs. Rachel opened the scoring with a cross from Tina and then a short while later Rachel returned the favor with a cross to Tina who headed the ball in for a goal. Our third goal came after Sam was fouled outside the eighteen and she blasted the direct kick into the top corner. Rachel’s second goal, a header from a cross from Lauren, closed out the scoring.
A little rain can’t stop this Blaze
I’m so proud of what we have accomplished so far. The girls have a great desire to show the world what they are capable of and they have worked extremely hard over the past three days in winning the group. It’s been a crazy and extremely draining past six days and I could see that the players were in need of some serious downtown, and so when I imposed a 9:30 pm curfew I was hardly surprised when nobody complained.
On Thursday we open the knockout stage against Stamningsgardens (Skelleftea, Sweden) at 12:05........wish us luck!
