Day 6 – En Fuego
We had an early morning breakfast and we left the hotel at 8:30 for our 10:50 game. As we waited for the tram to take us to the field we meet a twelve year old boy’s team from Venezuela. I’m not sure what transpired but Anne started speaking to them in Spanish and then they began chanting and dancing, and then our girls joined them and everyone was dancing and cheering!

It was a tough day for the SDFF goalkeeper

We arrived to the field and they get better and better every time. We were anxious to play SDFF (Sundsvall, Sweden) after learning that their club is ranked second in their country, but the girls rose to the occasion and held nothing back, and we prevailed 6-1. Sam and Avika scored twice and Katie and Rachel each had a goal. Even Gabby got into the mix with an assist! We out shot them 15-2 and had three corners to their one. The girls were, as Anne would say, “en fuego!”

After our match the girls had their afternoon free and some went to the Heden center to watch more games while others went shopping. We had a wonderful team dinner at a local Italian Restaurant and after dinner the girls headed to Club Gothia, which is a disco that they have for the players. (What’s a trip to Europe without a visit to the local disco?) The girls loved it and they are hoping to go back later in the week.

The team is having a great time and it appears that we have built a local fan base; there were several teams watching us today and as we walk on the streets passing people stop and cheer for our players!  Tomorrow we play Funbo/Rasbo (Uppsala, Sweden) and we are looking to sweep our group. Wish us luck….

Coach Yvette
